New Exhibition Director for SPE Offshore Europe

New Exhibition Director for SPE Offshore Europe

05 August 2019

Simon Marshall has been appointed as exhibition director for SPE Offshore Europe ahead of this year’s event which takes place in Aberdeen, Scotland 3-6 September 2019.

Mr Marshall will oversee the strategic direction of Europe’s largest energy event as it evolves in-line with the energy transition to a low carbon future.

Mr Marshall joins from ITE Group plc where he was head of oil & gas for events focused on Russia and Central Asia. He has worked in the energy sector for more than 10 years, starting his career at Platts before launching investor summits for international energy ministries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He was the project and commercial lead for the World Energy Congress 2016 in Istanbul and has recently completed an MBA in International Oil & Gas Management at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) in Dundee.

"SPE Offshore Europe strengthens Aberdeen’s position as the pre-eminent energy city in Europe and I am joining at an extremely important time for the event and the city as the industry journeys towards a low carbon future,” said Mr Marshall.

"Offshore Europe is also evolving, with a new home at the P&J Live complex and a focus on new technology and emerging infrastructure to support the energy transition. It is an exciting time to be taking on this role when upstream operators are working hard to achieve maximum economic recovery (MER) while delivering less energy intensive practises, CO2 reduction targets and broader clean energy goals.”

Energy transition, artificial intelligence and the transformation of the workforce will be amongst the major talking points at SPE Offshore Europe 2019.

A new Energy Transition Hub will debut at the event, with exhibition and conference space dedicated to the evolution of the oil and gas industry to a low carbon future. ABB, Aker Solutions, BHGE, BP, National Oilwell Varco, the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), Oil & Gas UK (OGUK), Total, Wood and Worley are partners in the hub.

Senior international industry figures will co-chair the keynote sessions which also includes decommissioning and late life, underwater innovation, transformative technologies to lower the carbon footprint, digital security, integrated technologies, digitalisation, standardisation and finance. The conference programme includes a three parallel stream technical conference with 75 technical papers and 12 keynote sessions.

For the first time, SPE Offshore Europe is partnering with the Financial Times on the one-day FT Oil & Gas Finance and Investment Forum which is exploring the role of finance in the industry. Sir Ian Wood will give the opening keynote on 4 September, taking to the stage with senior leaders from operators including BP, Equinor, Lundin Petroleum, Neptune Energy, Repsol and Siccar Point as well as representatives from the International Energy Industry (IEA), investment banks and advisers.

The first StartUp Village, organised by OGTC and social enterprise, Elevator, is sold-out with 60 start-up companies rotating every day on 16 pods. TechX has organised the theatre content which will consist of pitch battles between the start-up exhibitors.

After a successful introduction two years ago, the 2019 event will include an expanded Decommissioning Zone to include late life with a conference programme organised by Decomm North Sea, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Society for Underwater Technology (SUT), Subsea UK and Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC).

An ENGenious Zone is being incorporated into SPE Offshore Europe 2019 after the success of the inaugural event in Aberdeen in 2018. This area will highlight innovations in robotics, data analytics, automation and advanced communications ahead of the next standalone ENGenious event in 2020.
