Dominion Gas Awarded Nord Stream Deal

Aberdeen-based Dominion Gas is to become the main supplier of industrial gas for the Nord Stream Project in a deal worth upwards of €2million.

The Nord Stream gas pipeline links Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea and is expected to transport up to 55 billion cubic metres of gas each year – enough to supply more than 26million households.

Dominion was awarded the work by the Italian oilfield services company Saipem. Saipem secured the contract for all pipelay activities – worth more than €1billion – in June 2008.

The deal involves Dominion supplying all welding gases and equipment for construction of the pipeline. The company will operate from the Swedish project based in Norrköping as of April 2010 for a period of two years.

Doug Crighton managing director of Dominion Gas said: “As a result of this contract we have already begun investing in new equipment to meet the demands of the project.

“Dominion has now been the primary industrial gas supplier for two of the world’s longest subsea pipelines – an achievement which we are very proud of and our teams are looking forward to getting this project up and running.”

Dominion Gas is currently Scotland’s only independent oilfield service company supplying the full range of diving, welding, industrial, laboratory, test and calibration gases. Its subsidiary company Argon Isotank specialises in the rental and transfer of bulk chemical tanks operating predominantly within the global oil and gas industry but also in the petrochemical sector.

Winner of the Subsea Company of the Year at the 2010 Subsea Business Awards, Dominion Gas has a turnover in excess of £25 million and currently employs 85 staff worldwide with offices in Baku, Singapore, Perth, West Africa, Norway, Houston, Dubai and corporate headquarters in Aberdeen Scotland.
