Subsea connection specialist, First Subsea has formed a Pipeline Tools Division, supplying pipeline handling, pipeline recovery, Autoswage pipeline repair and coiled tube pulling tools. The pipeline tools are based on First Subsea's proven Ballgrab ball and taper technology, providing a secure connection for most types and sizes of pipe.

The Pipeline Tools Division has a dedicated sales and technical development and rapid-response support team based at First Subsea's offices in Lancaster, UK. Additional support is available from existing offices in Aberdeen, Australia, Brazil and the US, and with new offices opening in Africa and South East Asia.

Ballgrab-based pipeline recovery tools have been used offshore since the 1980s. However it's only in the last three years that First Subsea has systematically enhanced the ball and taper technology to broaden the scope and range of its pipeline tools in offshore applications as well as project decommissioning.

“We've built on the experience of our pipeline recovery tools and looked at how we can apply the Ballgrab technology to other pipeline situations. So far we've successfully developed and deployed tools for pipeline handling, repair and coiled tube pulling. In forming the Pipeline Sales Division we are putting the kind of sales and technical and support resource needed to grow this business and deliver excellent customer service,” said Brian Green, general manager, First Subsea Ltd.

First Subsea's pipeline tools use a ball and taper, self-aligning, self activating system to enable rapid deployment and provide a secure grip on the pipeline. The Pipeline Recovery Tools (PLRT`s) are ex-stock for most pipe sizes used in subsea applications or if required bespoke design and manufacture is also available.

All Pipeline Recovery Tools are complete with a ROV friendly deployment arm and are available with optional dewatering system, abandonment and recovery tooling.
