Global audience joins umbilicals conference
13 September 2022
Around 60 delegates took part in the recent Umbilicals Conference organised by Global Underwater Hub (GUH) and the Umbilical Manufacturers’ Federation (UMF).
The one-day conference at the GUH’s event studio in Westhill, Aberdeenshire focused on umbilical developments in a world of energy transition. It brought together material suppliers, international specification bodies, systems designers, installers, operators and other interested parties to discuss the latest developments in umbilical manufacture and application.
Throughout the day, debate centred on the key challenges with umbilical specification, particularly as energy projects are progressing into deeper waters and subsequently higher pressures. Also sparking discussion was the area of health and safety and the importance of sharing umbilical safety incidents across the industry. By doing so the industry can learn lessons to make further safety improvements.
The event had an international flavour, with speakers and delegates from across Europe travelling to north-east Scotland, while other speakers delivered presentations virtually from Rio de Janeiro and Milan. Run as a hybrid event, the conference was also streamed online to a global audience who contributed questions and commentary throughout the day.
