The Scottish Government draft Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan: Response from Global Underwater Hub
12 January 2023
Responding to the Scottish Government’s publication of its draft energy strategy, Neil Gordon, chief executive, said:
The Scottish Government’s draft energy strategy demonstrates continued commitment to scaling up renewable energy production and securing a just energy transition.
Developers, operators and the supply chain have long taken leading positions in supporting Scotland’s energy transition, further evidenced by strong demand and participation in ScotWind, INTOG and consecutive submissions in the nascent CCUS and Hydrogen industry.
We do note the requirement for an energy mix however and would reiterate our belief that it’s more imperative than ever that we have a joined-up supply chain development strategy to ensure a timely, just transition and visibility of opportunities. This clarity would provide impetus for our nearly 900 Scottish supply chain companies to remain focused and optimistic about a continuation of domestic opportunities, which in turn would spur further investment in infrastructure and skills.
The Global Underwater Hub continues to work with the supply chain to fully understand what is required to bring new projects forward and what we are capable of delivering.
