The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) has announced a new ambassador partnership with eight experts from a broad range of industries who will support and promote its vital work in understanding the planet’s oceans and their role in regulating and sustaining the planet.

The industry experts come from a diverse range of sectors including science, sport, fashion, and television, and will actively promote the work of the NOC’s scientists in order to reach new audiences and raise the profile of the NOC’s vital work into ocean research. The ambassadors all share a common goal in being passionate about the ocean and will help the NOC reach more people who can in turn play their part in protecting the ocean and the planet.

Commenting on the NOC’s new ambassador programme, Sofie Bennett, Head of Philanthropy at the National Oceanography Centre, said: "As we face a dramatic decline in the health of our ocean and climate, we must all work together to find scientific solutions to the issues that affect our environment, our health, and our future. As the UK’s leading ocean science charity, we have teamed up with our new ambassadors who share our values and will help us to reach more people and ensure that we all play our part in protecting the ocean and planet. We are really excited to be working with the ambassadors who will help to highlight our scientific projects to a wider and more diverse audience.”

The NOC’s new eight ambassadors are:

• Dee Caffari, MBE, is the only woman to have sailed solo, non-stop around the world in both directions and six times in total becoming one of the most successful and recognised British offshore sailors
