Industry Accreditation for University Engineering Degrees

07 September 2010

Master of Science ( MSc ) degree programmes in Subsea Engineering, Safety and Reliability Engineering, and, Oil and Gas Structural Engineering have been accredited by the:

Institution of Civil Engineers ( ICE )
Institution of Structural Engineers ( IStructE )
Institution of Highway Engineers ( IHE )
Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation

The MSc programmes in Subsea Engineering and Safety and Reliability Engineering have also been accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers ( IMechE ).

The MSc in Subsea Engineering was also accredited by theInstitute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology ( IMarEST ) in May this year.

The accreditation of these courses makes them eligible for students who are seeking Chartered Engineer status, after previously completing an accredited Bachelor of Engineering ( BEng ) degree.

Welcoming the accreditations, Professor Albert Rodger, Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Physical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen said: “The University of Aberdeen’s School of Engineering is committed to developing degree programmes which are tailored to meet the current and future demands of the oil and gas sector.

“The MSc’s in Subsea, Safety and Reliability, and, Oil and Gas Structural Engineering are particular examples of the unique way in which the University works with industry to achieve this.

“These degrees are delivered in conjunction with industry partners who contribute to the content and teaching of the programmes.

“Achieving accreditation from these key engineering professional institutions is strong recognition of the University’s commitment to delivering industry-focussed programmes and of the high quality, calibre and relevance of these three degree programmes.”

The MSc in Subsea Engineering is available to students as either a one year full-time campus-based degree or as a part-time distance learning degree over three years.

The MSc in Safety and Reliability Engineering is available as a full-time one year, or part-time two year campus-based degree.

The MSc in Oil and Gas Structural Engineering is available as a part-time distance learning degree over three years.
