The Sonsub Division of Saipem UK has today been holding a ‘Bring Your Child to Work' day at their premises in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.
All staff were invited to bring in their children to gain an introduction to the subsea industry and also develop an understanding of what their parents do for a living. After a welcome introduction by General Manager Giorgio Martelli and a brief tour of the buildings, the children were separated into various age groups, assigned ‘job titles' and given a range of tasks to perform, including drawing and creating model ROVs, designing a new company logo and flying the in-house ROV simulator through a typical subsea scenario, before assisting their parents in their daily duties.
Human Resources Manager Tina Welsh said: “Parents spend so much of their day at work and we believe it is important for their children to understand what they do and where they do it. At least now the children can visualise where their parents are when they are not at home. It has created a great buzz around both buildings utilised by Sonsub. Hopefully other companies will follow the initiative."
Giorgio Martelli added: “Although we are perfectly aware that it is a bit early to offer them formal training and an employment contract, we believe that our company and families have the same values and we want our children to learn that. Besides, it was a refreshing day at the office for all of us.”
