Hallin Marine, a Superior Energy Services company, recaps 2010 highlights and accomplishments. The year began with Hallin's acquisition by Superior Energy Services, an acquisition completed on January 26."Hallin's strategy has always been to offer modern equipment, safe operations and cost-effective fit-for-purpose solutions," comments John Giddens, Hallin's chief executive officer. Queen's Award for Enterprise
Hallin West Division was honored with a Queen's Award for Enterprise after increasing its sales 14-fold in just three years. Founded in Scotland in 2006 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hallin Marine Subsea International Ltd, Hallin West Division achieved sales in excess of $35 million during 2009. Hallin West Division now employs more than 100 people in Aberdeen and offshore around the globe.
New contracts
Hallin successfully completed installation of the world’s largest rotor diameter subsea tidal turbine, the 1 megawatt AK-1000, at the European Marine Energy Centre off the coast of Scotland's Orkney Islands. Hallin was contracted by Atlantis Resources Corporation, one of the world’s leading developers of tidal power technology, to provide specialist services as an experienced subsea contractor to plan, help design and install the huge, cutting edge turbine. The AK-1000, a twin rotor turbine, with its supporting structure weighs 1,300 tonnes and was deployed in the harsh open-ocean environment of the North Sea.
Hallin was also awarded a free-span-correction contract offshore Taiwan. The contract was placed by the CPC Corporation, Taiwan (CPC), and carried out in water depths of between 260 and 330 feet by Hallin Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and saturation divers working from the DP2-classed vessel Carlisle. Hallin supplied and operated its own designed and built C-ROVs, a 12-man Saturation Diving System and all the grouting equipment, survey, deck and project personnel onboard the Carlisle.
Hallin Marine Australia Pty secured its first major contract on the Gorgon natural gas project in the Carnarvon Basin off the Australian west coast. Hallin's focus on the region is being supported with a range of assets to be sent and based in Australia.
Hallin fleet expansion
2010 has seen considerable investment in new vessels. The West Division of Hallin took delivery of the purpose-built subsea operations vessel, The Ullswater, and immediately won its first saturation diving contract. The Ullswater, complete with its in-built saturation diving system and operations team of divers and engineers, commenced work on a contract for Acergy offshore Angola.
In April, Hallin expanded its fleet with the purchase of a dynamically positioned vessel, the 220 foot Penrith which Hallin has operated since its launch in 2008 under a time charter from Seacor Marine. The Penrith is powered by two MaK Caterpillar diesel engines, which produce 8,000 brake horse power, is ABS classed and has a fire fighting capability. With the ink barely dry on the purchase agreement, the Penrith started work on a three-month $6.5 million contract for PT Pertamina Hulu Energi ONWJ Ltd.
Hallin inaugurated its new subsea operations vessel Windermere at a ceremony on June 14 in Singapore attended by clients, staff and suppliers. The 262 foot vessel was named by Lady Sponsor Allison Zuber, wife of Superior Energy’s Executive Vice President, Patrick Zuber. Guest of honor was Superior's CEO Dave Dunlap.
