Inspectahire Measures Up New Device

14 February 2011

Remote visual inspection specialist and CorDEX Instruments distributor, Aberdeen-based Inspectahire has taken delivery of the hazardous area equipment manufacturer’s latest explosion-proof product which is ideally suited for offshore workers.

Believed to be the first of its kind in the world, CorDEX Instruments’ LaserMETER 3000XP is an explosion-proof hand-held laser distance meter which is ATEX and IECEx certified for use within Zone 1 IIC T4 hazardous (explosive) areas. The revolutionary anti-hazard measuring device is capable of measuring distances of 30m with a typical accuracy of 3mm and complies with stringent offshore health and safety regulations.

LaserMETER 3000XP Explosion-Proof Laser Distance Meter

Encased in aluminium and with a rugged industrial-grade construction, the LaserMETER has been built to withstand harsh environments and accidental falls or knocks. Simple to use operating functions cater for workers in hazardous locations wearing protective kit and gloves – offering quick and accurate distance, volume and area measurement within explosive areas.

Cailean Forrester, Inspectahire managing director, said: “The LaserMETER has been very carefully designed and draws on CorDEX’s experience with its explosion-proof digital camera. It is an ideal device for any personnel carrying out measuring work in areas classified as high-risk, where it is crucial to eliminate the source of ignition that can come from electrical devices.

“Safety is of paramount importance in any industry and this product has clear benefits for the mining, chemicals and energy industries. Its robust design and ATEX and IECEx certifications mean the device is perfect for offshore personnel working on high-risk installations. Currently personnel have to obtain special ‘hot work permits’ to use standard electronic measuring devices, so the LaserMETER can help cut the time and administration of obtaining ‘hot work permits’.”

Designed and developed from end-user feedback by North Yorkshire-based CorDEX Instruments, the distance measurement tool’s robust IP65 design incorporates shock-resistant, anti-static over mould with interchangeable battery pack and backlit LCD display. Packed with features such as Pythagoras, and area and volume calculations, the LaserMETER provides reliable and high-quality precision measurement.
