Technip Announces Significant Upgrade To Evanton Spoolbase

Technip has announced that it has recently completed a close to £3 million upgrade of its UK Spoolbase located in Evanton, Ross-shire, North Scotland. The upgrade was undertaken to meet two key aims: to increase storage capacity of pipestalks (which are fabricated to create pipelines used for subsea projects), and to further ensure site safety.

The upgrade has enabled storage capacity of pipestalks to be increased by 40%. This has been achieved with the introduction of twin stalkracks, which can be safely accessed via a new central access work-road. It has also allowed simultaneous production and spooling of fabricated pipelines as a new S-Bend spooling facility has been installed, which runs from both production shops and stalkracks.

Furthermore, safety related aspects of pipe stalk fabrication have been improved with an upgrade to ‘offline' repair areas and spooling rollers. The office accommodation has also been upgraded to offer better welfare facilities including a new centralized mess. Access roads and lighting around the remotely located site have also been strengthened.

The upgrade, which has already improved general operations, will also prepare the Evanton Spoolbase for operations involving Technip's New Pipelay Vessel (yet unnamed – delivery 4th quarter 2010). The vessel will be one of the fastest and most sophisticated pipelay vessels in the world and has been selected to increase and enhance Technip's pipelay capabilities. Technip's current pipelay vessels are Deep Blue and Apache.
