Neil Douglas of Viper Subsea named as IoD South West Director of the Year 2011

16 June 2011

Neil Douglas of Viper Subsea, the Bristol based supplier of subsea systems and products to the global oil and gas industries, has been named as Institute of Directors (IoD) South West Director of the Year 2011.

Neil was honoured at the fifth annual IoD South West Evening with Entrepreneurs at Bristol’s Marriott Royal Hotel, Thursday 9thJune, where he was presented with his award by Miles Templeman, Director General of the IoD. The award tops off an incredible year for Neil Douglas and Viper Subsea in which the company has launched its V-LOCK® hydraulic stab plate and also won The New Enterprise Award at the prestigious Subsea UK Business Awards 2011 in Aberdeen.

Speaking about the award, Neil Douglas said; "This award is a big honour personally, but equally it is an award for the business. The success of Viper Subsea comes down to the committed team we have and this award is a result of the efforts of everyone within the company.

"Viper Subsea invests significantly in Research and Development, the business is profitable, and we’ve enjoyed a high growth during a period of international financial turmoil. Equally as important, we have created new jobs and grown the work force.”

Established in 2007 with a remit to provide the market with subsea control system consultancy and superior product solutions, Viper Subsea has enjoyed a 40% year-on-year increase in turnover in its first three trading years. Neil Douglas continues; "We have recently added team members to enable us to develop our electrical integrity services. We get a lot of enquiries about electrical faults in the subsea umbilicals and distribution network that often lead to costly loss of production of hydrocarbons.”

Electrical failures are occurring more regularly as oil and gas fields and associated installed equipment gets older. System degradation is a common problem, but Viper Subsea can now offer a specialist consultancy service to advise how to maximise production within the constraints of the faults, identify the location of those faults and to design solutions to rectify or mitigate the same.

"Viper Subsea has a global reach with exports accounting for a high percentage of the revenues.” continues Neil Douglas. "Viper Subsea is establishing itself on the global stage as an example of British innovation and superior service.”
