Seatronics will take Delivery of a Full Suite of Subsea Positioning Solutions

02 April 2012

SEATRONICS, the leading Aberdeen based subsea equipment rental company, will take delivery of a full suite of subsea positioning solutions worth more than €1,4M from world leading supplier iXBlue

The procurement includes a number of GAPS pre calibrated USBL systems, PHINS Subsea and ROVINS Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) together with a quantity of Generation 4 OCTANS Subsea Gyros. All these systems incorporate iXBlue’s unique maintenance free Fibre Optic Gyro (FOG) technology.

Since the introduction of GAPS in the offshore industry more than 6 years ago, operators have been impressed by the accuracy, reliability and portability of this innovative system which combines acoustic positioning and inertial navigation technologies. GAPS is designed for high-accuracy tracking of ROVs, AUVs, sonar and other towed sensors. As the most accurate USBL in its class, it can operate from deep to extremely shallow water and demonstrates matchless performance in challenging environments where conventional USBL systems fall short.

The ubiquitous OCTANS Subsea gyrocompass has once again been chosen by Seatronics as it continues to deliver the performance, reliability and ease of use demanded by their worldwide customer base. An additional attraction of the Generation 4 OCTANS is that it can be upgraded easily to ROVINS to provide the benefits of inertial positioning.

The PHINS Subsea is a highest grade INS available commercially and is used in most demanding subsea positioning applications such as metrologyor pipeline out of straightness surveys. All of iXBlue’s well proven INS products are easily integrated with DVL and other aiding sources to deliver robust and flexible positioning solutions for any subsea application.

Olivier Cervantes, VP Sales & Marketing EMEA & LATAM at iXBlue said, ‘The combination of our acoustic and INS technologies provides smoother subsea positioning which in turn translates to more accurate data and time savings resulting in more efficient operations in challenging subsea environments, whether it’s deepwater, very shallow or acoustically noisy. The increase in the demand from rental companies such as Seatronics highlights the growing demand for proven, reliable and robust products that save time, whilst providing highest quality data in terms of accuracy and redundancy’.
