Subsea UK Business Awards 2012

Packed to capacity, 2012's Subsea Business Awards Dinner was a huge success. The sell-out dinner was accompanied by entertainment from speaker Mark Gallagher, former marketing director of Jordan Grand Prix. Below are the nominations and winners of all the awards, acknowledging the hard work companies and individuals in the subsea sector put in year after year.

The dinner took place at the AECC in Aberdeen, 8-9th February 2012.

Safety Leadership - Expro

In 2009 Expro established a new objective, to become the global leader in well flow management with HSE performance as a key factor. The board considers Health and Safety as pivotal to achieving this objective and "Excellence in OperationsĒ which was implemented globally during 2007 continues to align all areas of the company with this common goal and drive continuous improvement. Excellence in Operations sets out objectives to bring about increased performance in HSE, Service Quality and Customer Care. The three key areas of focus are People, Assets and Process.

Outstanding Contribution - Dr Jerry Baker

Jerry Baker has made outstanding contributions to the marine and subsea industries during the course of a career which has spanned forty-two years.During his career Jerry has served a major operator, a contractor and engineering consultancies across a range of technical spheres, but always with dedication to technical excellence and innovation.

New Enterprise - Specialist Subsea Services

With a solid foundation set in place future looks to be very achievable for S3 and the steps taken so far are leading them in the right direction. 2011 has brought the acquisition of a survey company that consists of two survey vessels and an investment in two further workclass ROVís (16 & 17) with further plans to expand the fleet in the coming year. Staffing has increased by over 150% in 2011 and is still on the rise. S3 is now looking to finalise itís time charter of a large modern ROV SV for 2012.

Innovation and Technology - Nautronix

The NASeBOP (Nautronix Subsea Emergency Blowout Preventer) Product was a development programme which increased the capabilities of our current acoustic BOP products, enhancing performance and increasing the safety features. NASeBOP provides an acoustic through water communication link from the surface to subsea or Surface BOP allowing command/control and monitoring of specific solenoids and sensors. This facility provides a secondary means of control and monitoring should the primary system fail or is inaccessible. NASeBOP can control up to 16 critical functions either manually or in an emergency situation via the Emergency Disconnect Sequence. The unit can also monitor up to 8 inputs allowing the integration of sensors at the Subsea BOP or isolation device, which could be pressure and temperature sensors. The main functions being to safely shut in a well. The added advantages being the ability to perform monitoring of critical functions after a disconnect has occurred.

Global Exports - Bowtech

The Bowtech product range consists of colour and monochrome tooling and diving cameras, professional colour zoom and HD cameras, professional low light cameras, underwater LED lighting, control units, Xenon emergency strobes and explosion proof cameras. Bowtech also provides anchor retrieval monitoring systems, riser inspection systems, oil leak detection systems. Bowtech are also representatives for SeaCon (Europe) underwater connectors and PRIZM fibre optic, RF and wireless multiplexers.

Bowtech keep abreast of technological advances and incorporate these latest innovations in their products, be it new products or revisions and improvements. In Bowtech's field, the technology develops at an extremely fast pace, and they seek out new technology and strive to provide their customers with the best equipment available to them by constantly reviewing and improving the existing product range and developing new innovative products.

Robert possesses many key skills and has clear goals in life, which is why SMD took the opportunity to recruit him rather than have another company snap him up. During his time at SMD Robert has shown great leadership and inspirational qualities for both himself and the company.
