Flowline Specialists Shortlisted for Northern Star Award

Flowline Specialists, a leading energy industry equipment manufacturer and service provider, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Achievement in International Business category in the 2015 Northern Star Business Awards.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious award ceremony recognises the achievements and contribution of businesses in north-east Scotland.  Now in its twelfth year, the Northern Star Awards features 39 finalists across 14 categories.

Flowline Specialists, which designs, engineers and manufactures a range of equipment that safely handles flexible pipes, umbilicals and cables for the global oil and gas, subsea and renewable industries, has been shortlisted in acknowledgement of its overseas growth.

Over the last five years, the Oldmeldrum-based firm has quadrupled its staff numbers and grown turnover from £0.85million to £6.5milion, with the value of exports increasing from 11% of turnover to now account for around half of its annual turnover.  In addition to its Oldmeldrum headquarters, the firm has a manufacturing facility in Fyvie and overseas bases in Norway, Holland, Singapore and Dubai, where further expansion is planned later this year.

Managing director Jim Smith, said: "The Northern Star Awards is a high profile event for the north-east and to be selected as a finalist is a great achievement.  It is recognition of our company’s successful export strategy and adaptability to the changing energy sector.  We have grown significantly in recent years, establishing bases in key markets such as Singapore, Holland, Norway and Dubai.

The Northern Star Awards take place on Thursday, 24 September 2015 at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre with around 840 guests expected to attend.
