Metocean: Awareness Course 2015
DATE: Tuesday 22 – Thursday 24 September 2015
LOCATION: IMarEST Headquarters, Aldgate House, 33 Aldgate High Street, London, EC3N 1EN, UK
ABOUT THE COURSE: The unique combination of meteorological and oceanographic data (metocean) can be used to develop critical information (such as weather and ocean forecasts, 100 year extremes and downtime statistics) to support the oil and gas and offshore renewables industry. Understood correctly, metocean data and information can enhance decision making and planning processes in both design and operation of offshore installations and vessels, reducing costs and improving safety. The events of 2005 in the GOM particularly emphasised this, and brought into sharp focus the impact the weather can have on oil industry activities offshore, not only in the Gulf but also wherever the industry operates.
WHY WILL THIS COURSE BENEFIT YOU?
- Understand why Metocean is important to the offshore oil & gas and renewables industries
- Find out about the Metocean process and how it fits in with other offshore activities
- Explore the key Metocean services and products
- Learn about the key Metocean parameters, such as significant wave height, and how Metocean data is collected/obtained and archived
- Gain an understanding of how weather forecasts are produced and see how Metocean conditions vary around the world
- Appreciate the implications of climate variability and data trends
- Learn how Metocean data is analysed to derive operational statistics such as weather downtime and design criteria such as 100 year conditions
- Become capable of engaging internal and external stakeholders about Metocean matters
- Find out where Metocean information, advice and support can be obtained
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course is essential for all those involved in offshore activities that are affected by weather and sea conditions. This includes project managers, structural engineers, pipeline engineers, subsea engineers, drilling and well engineers, logistics, O&M and survey staff, plus new Metocean staff.
