Triple Recognition for Aker Solutions at Major Awards Ceremony

25 September 2009

Aker Solutions in Aberdeen has celebrated three-fold recognition in the 2009 Northern Star Business Awards.

The global engineering and construction services group claimed the title in the Best Use of ICT category for its mySubsea™ project, while it was also shortlisted in two other key categories.

mySubsea™ is Aker Solutions' web-based project workspace that provides customers and vendors with on-demand access to project-related data from anywhere in the world.

The awards, a flagship event for Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, are made annually to recognise the many success stories in the north-east business community.

Ken Smart, vice-president, business development with Aker Solutions, said: “This ICT award acknowledges the steps we have taken to develop a culture that promotes the use of technology-driven measures to contribute to the success of our organisation. It is a particular achievement in light of the outstanding ICT culture which is fostered here in the north-east. ”

Meanwhile, Aker Solutions was also shortlisted in the Commitment to Research and Development category, while subsidiary Aker Qserv saw Process Manager Keith Drummond shortlisted in the Rising Star section.

Alisdair Gillespie, programme leader at Aker Solutions, said: “Being shortlisted in R&D for our work on open system architecture technology for subsea production control is a notable achievement, endorsing as it does our commitment towards pushing the boundaries of technology within the oil and gas industry.”

And Aker Qserv Director Ciaran Dreelan said: “Keith's contribution to our success is well acknowledged within the business and we're delighted to see him recognised in this way. I've no doubt he possesses all the attributes to be an industry leader of the future.”
