Subsea 7 Engineering Manager Wins Top Oil and Gas Award

06 November 2009

Subsea 7, one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction companies, announced today that its UK Engineering Services Manager, Craig Porter, last night won the highly contended Mentoring Award at the Oil and Gas UK annual awards ceremony – an award which recognises the important role mentors play in passing on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation of oil and gas workers.

Craig, who is responsible for Subsea 7's Engineering Graduate Training programme, its Drawing Office Apprenticeship Training Programme and its Conversion Training Programme (for engineers joining Subsea 7 from non oil and gas backgrounds) commented:

“I believe that those of us who currently have a career in the oil and gas industry have a personal responsibility to ensure that those who follow in our footsteps receive the benefit of our experiences to enable them to carry on and build upon the fantastic lessons learned and experiences achieved in this exciting industry. I am proud to work for a company that shares this value and gives me the scope, resources and commitment to carry forward my mentoring ambitions.”

Steph McNeill, Subsea 7's UK Regional Vice President, added:

“Winning this award has helped highlight both Craig's and Subsea 7's commitment to the continual development of the industry leaders of tomorrow and I would like to congratulate him on this fantastic achievement and thank him for all the hard work he puts in to the career development of our colleagues.

He has played a major role in the development of Subsea 7's Graduate and Apprentice Training Schemes and he has supported the company's reaccreditation of its in-house graduate training courses by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). In addition, he leads the Subsea 7 Engineering Mentoring Scheme, helping managers and supervisors improve their leadership and mentoring skills.”

Craig is also well known for his mentoring abilities out with Subsea 7, providing university liaison and tutorial support to the post-graduate students on the MSc in the Subsea Construction, Inspection and Maintenance module of the Subsea Engineering course at the University of Aberdeen.
