There was a refreshing mood of cautious optimism at a major offshore industry conference in Newcastle.

"Two years ago delegates were talking about what they wanted to happened and now we’re talking about what is happening,” said Subsea North East chairman Andrew Hodgson.

Mr Hodgson, CEO of Wallsend underwater robot vehicle firm SMD, was speaking to the 250-or-so delegates attending the bi-annual Subsea North East conference at St James’ Park, Newcastle, last week.
