The ECITB has kicked off a new round of its successful project management mentoring programme.

The programme pairs experienced project managers from within the oil and gas industry with individuals looking to gain knowledge, experience and skills to help them progress in their career. During a six-month guided relationship, mentors and mentees agree the target areas for development and then work towards set objectives tailored to the needs of individual mentees. The scope of mentoring includes use of project management tools, behaviours and leadership.

This year’s launch event, held on 29th of May 2018 at the Tree Tops Hotel in Aberdeen, gave participants a chance to meet each other as well as mentors and mentees from previous years, and get tips for how to get the best out of the programme and the mentoring relationship.

Speakers at the event included Peter Benton, Director at Cephas Project Management Ltd, Girish Kabra of Spirit Energy, a previous mentor on the programme and David Hunt of Ecosse Subsea, a previous mentee.

The programme is backed by the Offshore Project Management Steering Group (OPMSG) and is part of a vision to continually impart good practice through knowledge sharing within the oil and gas sector and more widely across other sectors within the engineering construction industry.

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said: "The delivery of projects to world-leading standards is vital to the future well-being of the oil and gas sector. This programme is an excellent example of industry putting aside commercial interests to cooperate for the benefit of the sector as a whole.

"The ECITB is proud to support this and the other Project Management development programmes which the OPMSG is leading. The learning and experience from oil and gas is highly transferable to other sectors, such as nuclear decommissioning where the ECITB is rolling out similar programmes.”

David Hunt, Projects Manager for Ecosse Subsea, said: "It is great to see the launch of the 4th ECITB Project Managers Mentoring course and I hope all of the mentors and mentees get as much enjoyment and benefit from it as I did on last year’s course.  I’d like to thank both the OPMSG and ECITB for the continuous drive to improve the sector in which we work, by encouraging the sharing of knowledge about best practice in the industry.”

In 2018, the OPMSG’s activities are focused on five strategic themes: Competence, Collaboration, Leadership, Robust Project Delivery and Digitization for Project Management Performance.  Project Management Mentoring is one of the strands of activity within the Competence theme which aims to Enhance PM Competence within the Industry by stimulating development programs and awareness in organisations.

2018 Project Management Mentoring Programme has now commenced with 11 pairings of
mentors and mentees.
