Royal IHC lays keel for Subsea 7 reel-lay vessel

The keel-laying ceremony for Subsea 7’s new reel-lay vessel took place at Royal IHC’s Krimpen aan den IJssel yard in the Netherlands on 5 July.
Subsea 7 have announced the vessel will be named Seven Vega, as a result of a naming competition open to its employees.
Seven Vega’s reel-lay system design is focused on operational efficiency, flexibility and crew safety. It features a twin-tensioner pipelay ramp which can be tilted to allow pipeline installation in shallow waters or depths of up to 3,000 m. The system has a large, multi-level workstation and a fixed auxiliary reel recessed into the main deck.
The vessel’s diesel-generator sets will be supplied by Hyundai, with a thruster package from Wärtsilä. Huisman has been commissioned to manufacture and install the 250-tonne main active heave-compensated offshore crane.
Subsea 7’s executive vice president of strategy and commercial, Stuart Fitzgerald said "The vessel marks an important investment for the future”, noting that when completed it will be a "global enabler” for the company.
