Last month, leading offshore marine operator Attollo Offshore mobilised a jackup accommodation unit to one of the world’s most innovative renewable energy projects – Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2.

The contract follows on from Attollo’s recent success in the Southern North Sea’s Race Bank windfarm project, which is now widely recognised as the benchmark for the successful construction and delivery of a windfarm.

Developed in the German North Sea, Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm comprises the largest wind turbines in the German North Sea and is expected to produce sufficient electricity to power nearly half a million homes per annum.

Attollo’s workscope will see the Aberdeen-based company - renowned for its smarter operations of offshore assets - provide accommodation and construction support for the hookup and commissioning of the 450MW high voltage substation.

Ben Moore, managing director at Attollo Offshore said: ""Attollo is delighted to be a part of this ground-breaking project, after our success at Race Bank.

"In comparison to the 4MW turbines used within Borkum Riffgrund 1, the Borkum Riffgrund 2’s 8MW turbines are the ultimate demonstration of the innovation and growing ambitions of Ørsted and the global offshore wind industry for a green energy future.”

Dennis Bormann, Deputy Construction Project Manager for BKR02, added: "With Attollo Offshore operating the Atlantic Amsterdam, we have extensive flexibility for the commissioning works on our BKR02 OSS topside, in terms of accommodation, storage, power supply and the whole logistical set-up.

"The crew is well trained and experienced, capable of conducting complex lifting operations, as well as ad-hoc tasks. This has allowed us to focus on getting our power production to run in time.”
