Global Underwater Hub’s popular Subsea Cable Insurance Conference and Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 2 July 2025 at the Hilton London Canary Wharf.  This third edition of the event follows the hugely successful inaugural 2023 conference in London and last year’s event in Bristol.

A one-day event, the conference is centred on the critical area of subsea cable reliability and insurability, again focusing on the serious impact that cable faults can have on the future growth of offshore wind.

Building on previous conferences, the event will bring together representatives of the extensive underwater supply chain, including those working in subsea cabling, offshore renewable energy and cable insurance.  Delegates will discuss how industry can collectively increase the reliability of subsea cables, enhance industry standards, minimise downtime, reduce risk and cost, and improve insurability.

Previous editions of the conference have driven debate and discussion on this important subject and led to Global Underwater Hub establishing the UK Subsea Cable System Forum in early 2025, underlining its commitment to this area and the wider field of subsea cables.

Conference format and focus
Globally, over $800billion of investment in offshore wind farms is anticipated by 2030.  For the world to hit net-zero emissions by 2050, the generating capacity from offshore wind must increase by 1,120 GW.  In the United Kingdom, the government has set ambitious targets of 50GW of installed capacity by 2030.  Achieving such scale requires hundreds of thousands of kilometres of reliable subsea cables to be installed and maintained

Featuring a morning of presentations and panel discussions, followed by an afternoon workshop that fosters collaboration and discussion, this is your opportunity to join the conversation and contribute to the discussion alongside key industry stakeholders, sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences to drive forward these issues.

The conference programme will centre around three key topics:
  • Failure modes
  • Repair solutions
  • Integrity monitoring and management

Key event highlights
Subsea power cables are an intrinsic part of bringing offshore renewable power, whether from fixed or floating wind farms, wave and tidal technologies or floating solar arrays.  With the green, renewable energy produced from such sources making an effective contribution to reducing carbon emissions and achieving net-zero targets, the importance of cable reliability to ensure the continuity of supply is evident.

Subsea Cable Insurance Conference & Workshop

Why attend
With billions of dollars of investment in offshore wind planned around the world in the coming decades and offshore wind power’s subsequent key role in contributing to global carbon emission targets, ensuring the reliability of subsea cables is critical.

This conference will explore the main causes of cable failure, discuss the emerging mechanisms that allow repairs to be managed and carried out proactively, and how building a picture of cable health can allow for advanced warning of potential failures.  The ultimate aim is to establish a strategy to improve the reliability and insurability of subsea cables.

Increase cable reliability
  • Learn how to enhance subsea cable reliability, minimise downtime, and reduce risks and costs through collective industry efforts.

Drive technological advancements
  • Stay informed about the latest innovations in dynamic cables and holistic cable monitoring systems.

Influence industry standards
  • Contribute to developing industry-wide standards that enhance the quality and reliability of subsea cables.

Who should attend?
Global Underwater Hub’s Subsea Cables Insurance Conference & Workshop will again convene stakeholders from across the subsea cable, insurance and offshore renewable energy sectors.  Representatives from cable insurers, government, renewable energy operators, cable manufacturers, risk management consultants, and engineering, installation and specialist maintenance companies were among the assembled audiences at previous conferences.  This has included attendees from across the United Kingdom, Germany and The Netherlands.

If you are involved in designing, manufacturing, installing, maintaining, operating or insuring cables for offshore wind farms and other marine renewables projects, or are involved in any aspect of planning and operating such developments, this is a must-attend event that attracted over 120 delegates in 2023.

Subsea Cable Systems Whitepaper

GUH Subsea Cable Systems Whitepaper   In early 2025, Global Underwater Hub published its Subsea Cable Systems Whitepaper that set out the challenges facing the offshore renewable energy sector around the performance and reliability of subsea cables.  The document also presents a solution for how the UK can tackle cable performance and reliability, utilising its established track record in the area to become a centre of excellence for subsea cable systems in floating offshore wind. Download a copy
