Our Members, Their Stories: Walker Subsea

10 April 2026

Shining a spotlight on Global Underwater Hub (GUH) members.

GUH caught up with Vahid Walker, Technical Director of Walker Subsea.

What does your company do, and what role does it play in the subsea industry?

Vahid: "As a micro company, we rely on a co-operative approach to solve sizeable problems. We are thankful to our clients, partners and suppliers for supporting us through our technology roadmap.

"Having been successful applicants for the ORE Catapult “TIGGOR 2” programme, we are incredibly proud of our work on the 400V underwater battery pack.

The battery pack is built from stackable modules, each equipped with its own cell monitoring unit.

"With the incredible advances in the automotive industry, we had the opportunity to reshape underwater power storage. The result was a design that blended both subsea industry know-how, with the latest in EV technology.

"Featuring immersion-cooled cells in a sealed casing, it delivers serious power. Combined with the electronic fuse and off-gas venting system, the pack offers safe and reliable operation in the most arduous conditions."

What are the biggest opportunities or challenges your company is focusing on?

Vahid: "Working in the offshore industry, we are accustomed to underwater operations. However – to most people this is an alien concept!

"With 90% of the world’s goods transiting through major ports, we see the underwater sector as having a unique opportunity to reshape global logistics.

"Transiting safely below wind and waves, and benefiting from stable temperatures, underwater transport routes represent an opportunity to relieve congestion on roads, and to connect remote places without requiring radical infrastructure upgrade."

What excites you about the future of the subsea sector over the next 10 years?

Vahid: "We are just one of many companies developing innovative subsea technologies! Since our establishment in 2011, the capability of underwater vehicles has significantly grown, and there seems to be no signs of the pace of innovation slowing down.

"Over the next 10 years, we expect a lot more Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUV) replacing the ROV, conducting ever more complex and ambitious operations."

How has being part of Global Underwater Hub supported your business?

Vahid: "Our first company exhibition was the Subsea Expo, Aberdeen, in 2019. Since then, our team has grown, we have supplied services to new markets & locations and developed new products.

Immersion cooling – fluid direct on the cells, for efficient heat re-distribution.

"Every step along the way, GUH has helped us share the progress of our journey and provide practical support."

What value do you see in being a GUH member?

Vahid: "Membership of the GUH allows us to keep in touch with our network, attend events and learn about the latest products / projects."

In what ways has GUH helped your team connect with others in the industry?

Vahid: "We enjoyed the stand share at Ocean Business 2025! Not only did we have a prominent position at the show, but we benefited from getting to know our fellow companies – namely Viper Innovation, ACUA and Parkburn Precision Handling Systems."
